About this tool
This editor shows your Markdown and its rendered output side by side, updating as you type. It follows GitHub Flavored Markdown: headings, bold, italic, strikethrough, links, lists, task lists, blockquotes, code blocks and tables. Use it to draft a README, release notes, a blog post or documentation and check how it looks before you publish.
A toolbar inserts the syntax for you, with Ctrl+B, Ctrl+I and Ctrl+K shortcuts. Below the editor, a counter shows words, characters and estimated reading time. You can copy the Markdown or the HTML, or download a .md file or a standalone .html page with basic styling, titled after the document’s first heading.
How to use it
- Type or paste your text into the “Markdown” area; click “Example” to see the supported syntax.
- Use the formatting buttons, such as “Bold (Ctrl+B)”, “Link (Ctrl+K)” or “Table”, to insert syntax.
- Check the result in the “Preview”; on mobile, switch between “Write” and “Preview”.
- Get your output with “Copy Markdown”, “Copy HTML”, “Download .md” or “Download .html”.
Frequently asked questions
Which Markdown syntax is supported?
GitHub Flavored Markdown, parsed by the marked library: headings, emphasis, strikethrough, links, images, lists, task lists, blockquotes, code blocks and tables. Code blocks are not syntax highlighted.
Is the generated HTML safe?
The HTML is sanitized with DOMPurify before it is displayed or copied: scripts, inline styles, forms, iframes and embedded objects are removed. Links get target="_blank" and rel="noopener noreferrer" so they open in a new tab.
Is my draft saved?
Yes. Your text is saved automatically in this browser’s local storage and comes back on your next visit. It isn’t synced across devices, so download the .md file if you want to keep a copy elsewhere.
Is my text sent to a server?
No. HTML conversion, the preview and file creation all happen in your browser; the rendering module is simply loaded along with the page. Your draft stays in this browser’s local storage.
