About this tool

Paste a variable name, a title or a sentence and the tool instantly shows thirteen conversions: camelCase, PascalCase, snake_case, SCREAMING_SNAKE_CASE, kebab-case, Train-Case, dot.case, path/case, Title Case, Sentence case, lowercase, UPPERCASE and an accent-free slug. Word splitting recognizes spaces, punctuation and other separators, camelCase boundaries and acronyms, so XMLHttpRequest becomes xml_http_request in snake_case and xmlHttpRequest in camelCase.

It comes in handy for renaming variables between languages, building a constant name, a CSS class or a clean URL from a title. Title Case can keep small English and French words such as the, of, de or la in lowercase. The statistics panel counts characters, characters without spaces, words, sentences, paragraphs, lines and reading time.

How to use it

  1. Paste or type your text into “Text to convert”, or click “Example”.
  2. Check the “Statistics”: characters, words, sentences, paragraphs, lines and reading time.
  3. For “Title Case”, choose whether to check “Small words in lowercase (of, the, de, la…)”.
  4. Click “Copy” next to the conversion you need under “Conversions”.

Frequently asked questions

How does the tool split words?

It splits on spaces and punctuation, and wherever a lowercase letter is followed by an uppercase one. Acronyms stay together (XMLHttp gives XML and Http), and digits stick to the word before them, as in utf8 or base64.

How is the slug created?

Accents are removed, ligatures such as œ, æ or ß are replaced with plain letters, then words are lowercased and joined with hyphens. “Café on Christmas” becomes cafe-on-christmas, ready for a URL or a file name.

How is reading time calculated?

It assumes 200 words per minute and rounds up to the next minute. Words with apostrophes or hyphens, such as don’t or well-known, and decimal numbers such as 3.14 each count as a single word.

Is my text sent or stored anywhere?

No. Conversions and statistics are computed in your browser with no network requests, and the text isn’t saved: it’s gone when you leave the page. Only the small words option is remembered locally.
