About this tool

This generator picks random colors to help you find starting shades for an interface, a brand identity or an illustration. The palette has seven colors, and you can extend it to fourteen. Lock the colors you want to keep and a new draw only replaces the others. You can also type a three- or six-digit hex code directly into any swatch.

The colors you select are gathered in a separate panel, from which you can export them as a PDF. The file lists each color with its HEX, RGB, HSL and CMYK values, which is handy when handing them to a designer or a printer. The draw is random: the tool does not compute color harmonies, so choosing combinations is up to you.

How to use it

  1. Click Generate random colors to get a new palette.
  2. Lock the colors you want to keep, edit a code with the pencil, and use Add or Remove to change the number of swatches.
  3. Add the colors you like to your Selected list with the + button.
  4. Click Download PDF to export your selection, or Clear to empty it.

Frequently asked questions

Are the generated colors harmonious?

No, each color is drawn at random from the 16.7 million possible hex values. The tool is meant for quick exploration: lock what works and draw again for the other swatches until you land on a combination you like.

What does the exported PDF contain?

Every selected color appears with a swatch and its HEX, RGB, HSL and CMYK values. The CMYK values come from a simple mathematical conversion from RGB with no color profile, so have them checked before professional printing.

How many colors can the palette hold?

The palette starts with seven colors and can grow to fourteen with the Add button. The Remove button deletes the last added color, never going below seven, and also removes it from your selection.

Are my colors sent to a server?

No. Colors are drawn and the PDF is built in your browser, with no data sent anywhere. Note that the palette is not saved: it is lost when you reload the page, so export your selection first.
